My Search for my Family

Ever since I was young I had a strong drive to find out who my past relatives were and where they lived.
If I paid attention to the adults, there was a lot of story telling going on. Hearing the different names, putting them together with the faces, and then trying to put them in order in my brain was just not working correctly.

Some family members might give you information and there are some families that will tell you everything about their family, but not mine. The bits and pieces I did get from one family member would be enough to start a conversation with another family member.

I began copying information from cemeteries. When we went to pay our respects to one relative, there was often family member gravestones nearby. Along with names and dates, sometimes there was even a dedication to the person.

Note taking was important but it was apparent that organization was the key.

Then one day I got a free subscription to the popular genealogy site I put in the information I had on my relatives and the site added more. There were the names of the family members I had heard about and they were in order. This was great!

One of the most helpful aids they offer is the U.S. Census. Every ten years the census is taken. These records showed me when they lived, their addresses, ages, occupations, and sometimes even the neighbors who you might recognize as being called your aunt and uncle.

It will always be a passion of mine to get any new information and then organize it with the help from this popular genealogy website. Discover what research has already been done for YOUR family tree at OneGreatFamily.
